Story introduction
Sugar Sugar Rune is a manga by popular mangaka Anno Moyoko. She usually creates manga for more mature audiences, but Sugar Sugar Rune is completely "innocent" and first started running in Nakayoshi in 2003. Anno Moyoko (or Moyoco, as her name is often romanized) was born in Tokyo, March 26th 1971, and her starsign is Aries. Her other manga include Happy Mania, Flowers and bees, Hataraki Man, Sakuran etc. She married famous director Anno Hideaki (of Kareshi to Kanojou no jijou, Neon Genesis Evangelion etc) in 2002.The complex plot is a little hard to describe without giving away too much, but here's a spoiler free intro to the story as it begins:
Two little witches in training, Chocola and Vanilla, arrive in the human world to compete over who's to be the next queen of the magic world. They have one important rule in mind: "Hearts are to be picked up, but never let anyone get yours!" While humans can produce hearts over and over again, based on different emotions, witches only have one - and losing it can mean death.. Now, the witch who can manage to pick up the most hearts from human boys, will win! But will they manage to stay friends while at the same time being rivals? As it turns out, they're not the only magicians present in the human world, and not all the others are friendly.. Many characters are not what they seem to be, and there are many mysteries in both the past and present magic world that might change Chocola and Vanilla's lives..
