HiroshiKaoruHiroshi and Kaoru Mitarai
The Mitarai siblings are real upper-class kids. Their lifestyle is a bit different from the other kids. Not only do they live in a huge mansion with lots of servants, but they also have much classical training, such as spirit exorcism, martial arts, tea ceremony and the philosophy of yin-yang. Their lives seem also to be very dramatical.. that is, even small everyday events become huge dramas. They do not hide their feelings, and they are honest to the point of sometimes bragging or being rude. But they're also quick to apologize if they've made a mistake. Honor is important - they come from an old family, and have much to live up to. Especially Hiroshi, the eldest, who's always working so hard to honor his forefathers and prepare himself to one day take over the family business. Hiroshi (御手洗大) and Kaoru (御手洗薫) are often teased about their names. Their family name uses the kanji that are also used for "otearai", which means toilet.. In addition, the kanji in Hiroshi's name can also be read "dai", meaning big.. So Hiroshi's often called Dai-chan (which he hates). The kanji in Kaoru's name can mean "fragrant", so of course her classmates interpretes her name as "fragrant toilet" ^^;

ShinoShino
Kotarou's cousin is very small and cute. She has a lot in common with Kotarou: she's also lost her mother, and has a fear of being alone. She also has some of the powers that Kotarou have : a sensitivity towards the supernatural.

TarouTarou
Kotarou and Shino's great grandfather, who sends Kotarou and his dad apples from his orchard every year. In his youth, he was very energetic, proud and with a strong will - even now, in his old age, he's still stubborn. His energy and optimism helped Shima, who cried a lot and was very insecure. Tarou wouldn't hear of her blaming herself for all the bad things happening around her. They lived happily together for many years, but undoubtedly Tarou sensed that Shima was not like other girls. That didn't matter to him as he saw in her heart that she was a good person, and he loved her still. Tarou has had to suffer many hardships in his life - he eventually had to let Shima go, and later there was the tragic destiny of his son Kotarou. But his optimism, strength and big heart helped him to live on still.

Kotarou (the first)Kotarou (the first)
The first Kotarou Higuchi, son of Shima and Tarou, was a quiet and kind boy. But being half demon, he had inherited some of his mother's powers. He could see supernatural beings, and he could predict people's deaths. For his beloved angel Misha's sake he still tries to fit in with the normal humans. But he becomes an outcast, hated and feared by the villagers who think he's a demon who causes people to die. Kotarou's life was always difficult. Not only was he hated, but his family also got into trouble because of him, something that caused this sensitive boy to feel guilt. His decision to leave this world and hopefully join Misha in heaven, is not made solely for himself, but also because he does not want to cause his family any more trouble.

Shino (the first)Shino (the first)
Kotarou the first's sister, Shino, is also half demon, but she does not seem to have inherited such strong powers as her brother. She is a lively girl, who is very protective of her big brother. She often gets into fights when protecting his reputation (and she often wins, too). Shino doesn't care that she herself is getting teased and troubled because of her brother. She only wants him to be safe and happy, and always stands up for him.
