Nyaa - "Do you even know, that you're a demon?"

"Nyaa" is the Japanese equivalent of "meow"

Nyaa is Shia's companion, first appearing in the form of a black cat. It is Misha that names him Nyaa (=meow), since that's what he says when she asks him about his name. It is far too innocent a name for this familiar, who is a true demon, more so than Shia. He appears to be her mentor or her boss, deciding what she's allowed to and not, and always urging her on to drink others' life power. Apparently, he's able to possess other creatures, since we see the black cat lying dead in the snow after Nyaa's true form is revealed. This demon's true form - or at least, his human form - is that of a young man, with light-colored hair, cold eyes and dressed in a black cloak.

Nyaa is far more of a realist than Shia is. He is well aware of what will happen to her if she stays in the human world, and he's doing all he can to make her return to the demon world, or at least suck out someone's life power. He does not want her to die, it is obvious that he cares for her. But Shia, in the end, chooses to stay with Kotarou without hurting him. When Shia dies, Nyaa admits that she was more of a demon than he'd ever thought - she manages to sneak into people's heart, then leaving them unhappy.. and such wasting many lives, Nyaa's included.
