Pita Ten manga vs anime
There are HUGE differences between the Pita Ten manga and anime. The manga is basically more mature than the anime. The anime version is much more kindergarden-friendly. A couple of examples:
In the anime, Kotarou's first flight with the angel Misha seems to happen in his dream. He is at home playing video games, falls asleep and then Misha comes over to haul him outside and take him flying far above the city. He later wakes up at home again, and wonders if it was all a dream or if it was real. In the manga however, Misha and Kotarou's first flight happens when they're both drunk. Misha wants to throw a party, and has bought a huge barrel of sake. They end up flying to the top of Tokyo Tower, and Kotarou wakes up the next day with a hangover and hardly remembers anything...
Shia is a completely different person with a much more interesting background in the manga than in the anime. She is a also a much more dangerous character in the manga. For example, in the anime, Kotarou passes out at the hot springs because Misha does some well-meant, but non-functioning tricks on a Kotarou voodoo doll. In the manga, his passing out is Shia's fault. When Misha and Kotarou meets Shia at various places, they both get an extreme headache. Now Shia has followed them to the hot springs, where she attacks Kotarou with a "kiss" that drains him of his lifeforce. Shia is in great pain and needs other people's life force in order to stay alive. Kotarou is almost killed by this, since Shia had no control over how much of his life force she actually sucked out. Misha saves him with her angelic power, and this angelic power also cracks the bulb that's on Shia's staff - and suddenly Misha and Kotarou can be around Shia without getting headaches. Misha also shares her unlimited angelic lifeforce with Shia, so that Shia can be alive and well without hurting anybody.
Personally, I think the manga version is the best. The manga has a PLOT; while the anime is more of a series of cute episodes with no real goal. Don't get me wrong, I like the anime. It's cute, friendly, colorful and with great voice actors and wonderful music. But the anime is more a supplement to the manga. The real story is in the manga. I'm actually surprised how the anime completely ignores the manga storyline (it happens often, unfortunately, as the anime is often finished before the manga). In addition to an interesting storyline, the manga goes much more in depth. The characters are much more complex and real. There is much more true feeling, and more angst and seriousness. The manga got me much more emotionally involved than the anime. So, to conclude with, I have to say I enjoyed the anime for its cuteness and the joy of seeing the characters come alive with color and sound, while I love the manga for its storyline, character complexity and, of course, beautiful artwork. ^_^
